Confebask calls on the institutions to provide a “joint and urgent response” to the demographic challenge of the Basque Country

The organization’s recently appointed president, Tamara Yagüe, has pointed out that while the economy is performing better than expected, it needs a tax system that stimulates economic growth, wealth creation and employment.

The Basque Business Confederation, Confebasquehas called on the institutions to joint and urgent response to the demographic challenge facing the Basque Country. “We’ll have to pick up 140,000 people to accommodate the generation change and maintain the growth of our businesses.” Tamara Yagüe, the new president of the organization, in his first speech to the General Council.

Confebask held its usual Summer General Council this morning, where Tamara Yagüe has confirmed the replacement for the next four years of its then president, Isabel Busto. The new president has assured that, despite early year expectations, “The economy is performing better than expected”.

According to Yagüe, “prices are moderating in all areas, including energy”. According to his growth forecast of GDP in the Basque Country for 2023 remains around 1.5%with a slowdown in activity in the fall, “although a recession is not expected,” he said.
