The last generation protested again in Graz on Thursday – this time, however, without sticking and traffic barriers: a large poster on the centrally located Tegetthof bridge over the Mur was intended to attract attention.
Most recently, the last generation had carried out sensational action weeks in Innsbruck and Vienna, sparking violent controversy with their blockades. On Wednesday evening, an attempt was even made to disrupt the arrival of the Mercedes CEO at Vienna-Schwechat airport. After Easter, another wave took place in Graz, since then there have been only isolated protests and stubborn actions.
“Last generation before the tipping points”
This week it was announced that the focus for the rest of the summer would shift from the federal capital to the states. A first exclamation mark was placed in Graz on Thursday morning. On the Tegetthofbrücke near Andreas-Hofer-Platz, a 20-meter long banner was unveiled. Caption: “We are all the last generation before the tipping points.”
This refers to the climate tipping points, ie those limits beyond which global warming can no longer be stopped. “Heat waves, floods, droughts and water shortages are a reality and are becoming more common as a result of climate catastrophe. We will all be affected by it,” says a 20-year-old Simon in the Last Generation press release.
The government is again accused of inaction. For example, the implementation of the recommendations of the climate council convened last year is required.
