The multinational has registered a document, dated May 11, in the town hall of Oiartzun, saying that it is not going ahead with the project. Amazon has explained that it has revised “the model of the state organization” and that “the center” of the city of Gipuzkoan is not needed.
The plot and Lanbarren Pavilion in which the multinational wanted to install its logistics center is owned by an investment fund (formerly a transport company).
During this period, the owner carried out work to remediate the land. According to what the owner of the plot has communicated to the city council, “many transport companies” are interested in the space to install their activity.
According to the urban development plan for the town of Gipuzkoa, in Lanbarren, “only logistics and/or industrial activity is allowed”.
The arrival of the multinational Amazon in Gipuzkoa, where it wanted to establish a logistics point, caused concerns among local traders who viewed with suspicion the possible landing of the American company on their territory.
