Devastating fires are raging in many regions of Greece – now a drama has occurred during the extinguishing efforts. A firefighting plane may have crashed on the island of Euboea – on camera while a TV station was broadcasting live.
State television reported on the plane crash. It is not yet known if there have been any deaths. A video of the accident was published on social media – according to the TV channel, the incident happened on camera during a live broadcast. It would be a Greek civil defense plane. Aircraft from different EU countries are deployed for firefighting operations.

According to broadcaster ERT, the accident happened over the town of Karystos on the south coast of the island. Rescue work was still underway on Tuesday afternoon – a helicopter was supposed to search for the downed machine.
Even higher temperatures are expected in Greece
On the island of Euboea, large fires were reported early Monday morning around the port city of Karystos. According to the authorities, more than 90 firefighters and two firefighting aircraft have been deployed to the island. Numerous villages had to be evacuated. And the situation could get worse: meteorologists predicted even higher temperatures for Greece.
