More than 100 fire engines and helicopters have been deployed in Greece for days, but the fires continue to rage in many regions of Greece. The damage on the Greek island of Rhodes is already extensive. Should such disasters also be feared in Austria? krone.tv spoke with Günter Trinker, commander of the Salzburg fire brigade.
“These scenarios are not comparable to Austria,” says the commander of the Salzburg fire brigade. “We don’t find conditions like the drought, heat and vegetation in Greece in Austria.”
But it is also noticeable in Austria that vegetation fires are occurring more often because the weather is drier than a few years ago. However, due to the high density of volunteer fire brigades in Austria, there is a fast response time, which means that forest fires usually do not spread to such large blazes.
