Johannes Kronegger, born in Scharnstein, crosses the Alps barefoot. He has already covered the first painful 90 of the 460 kilometers – he hikes from Scharnstein to Trieste in Italy.
“The only difference between August and December is that it is now longer light,” Johannes Kronegger jokes after the first of four weeks of his crossing of the Alps. As reported, the 34-year-old wants to walk without shoes from his home in Scharnstein to Trieste – which is 460 kilometers. After the first week he has covered almost a quarter of the distance and has almost reached the Tamsweg (Sbg.). During these 90 kilometers he repeatedly questioned the meaning of his adventure. Despite the bad weather, giving up is no problem.
‘I had to adjust my running style’
But the muscles of the tour almost brought it to an abrupt end: “During the descent from the Pühringer Hut, there were many sharp edges. I had to change my running style to avoid injuries. That strained some muscles. Fortunately, I found a physiotherapist in Gröbming. Bernhard Regl treated me for two and a half hours and did wonders, and he didn’t charge a penny for it.”
It snowed in the mountains
Finally, a long break had to be taken at the Hans-Wödl-Hütte from Sunday to Monday. It snowed in the mountains. The ground was partially frozen. The temperature did not rise above three degrees. “But the weather has to get better,” says the always cheerful “Joh”, who is looking forward to sunnier days. “I feel like asphalting even more!”
