After the heavy storm on Sunday evening in the Tyrolean Oberland and Ausserfern, the mountain pass over the Hahntennjoch had to be closed. During a drone flight, the route turned out to be blocked by at least ten (!) debris flows. The cleanup work started Monday.
The pass road, which connects the Tyrolean Lechtal with the Inntal, is known to be prone to mudslides. But what happened on the Hahntennjoch on Sunday evening is a rarity. Both on Imster and on the Ausserferner side there were several mudslides after the heavy rainfall.
The scale of the drone flight became clear
“The mudslide alarm system immediately went off and the traffic lights turned red,” Bernd Stigger, head of the Imst district office, told the “Krone”. On Monday morning, the road maintenance department flew a drone over the mountain pass. “It turned out that there are at least ten mud stream lines,” Stigger continues.
Clean-up operations will take several days
According to the expert, the clean-up work, which was in full swing on Monday, will probably take a few more days. The Hahntennjoch will remain closed to all traffic for the time being. A local bypass is not possible. The Lechtal can be reached from the Inn Valley via the Fern Pass.
Storm operations also in the Lechtal
There were also numerous operations in the upper Lechtal on Sunday evening. Especially the villages of Bach and Stockach and Elbigenalp were hit by the storm with heavy rainfall. “There were floods and small mudslides. The B198 Lechtalstraße had to be closed for two hours between Bach and Stockach due to a mudslide, the police said.
The fire service provided a local diversion. In addition, several cellars were flooded.
