Shots and fear – Bodycam: This is how Russians boarded a Turkish ship

Date:

According to official information from Moscow, a Russian warship in the Black Sea allegedly stopped the Turkish ship Sukra Okan by force. The cargo ship was en route to Ukraine. A particularly spectacular video distributed by none other than the Russian Ministry of Defense should prove this.

It’s like something out of an action movie. Black and white photos show a man in military uniform on a ship. Desperate people kneel on the floor, hands clasped behind their heads in submission. Armed soldiers enter the wheelhouse and yell to stop the engine.

When asked why the freighter has not stopped despite all orders, the captain replies that he “misunderstood something”. The atmosphere is very tense. The crew members try to support the captain, who apparently does not speak English.

Türkiye wants nothing to do with violence
The press department of the Russian Ministry of Defense assures that the ship was able to continue its journey “after careful examination of the documents”. The version of the Turkish company that owns the cargo ship is different.

A spokesman for the company told CNN the ship was empty at the time of the inspection. The purpose of the cargo ship’s voyage was to get grain from Ukraine. The Turkish side does not want to hear about threats or negative actions that Russia openly admits…

Stop signals ignored
The Turkish cargo ship was on its way to the Ukrainian Danube port of Ismail and is said to have ignored stop signals. The Russian army is said to have fired warning shots from automatic weapons.

According to BBC Russia, it is the first case since Russia’s exit from the grain deal that a merchant ship has been forced to stop outside Ukrainian ports by firing warning shots. The Ukrainian authorities were angry and spoke of a violation of international maritime law.
