A young German was killed near Leibnitz (Styria), where the Sulm was still under water. He got help in a riding school. There are still many unanswered questions about this incident.
The young man, who probably has an intellectual disability, is on holiday with his mother at the campsite in the Leibnitz district. An accident happened on Wednesday afternoon: The youngster stood at the river swimming pool “Zur Steinernen Wehr” in Kaindorf an der Sulm and threw stones into the flooded river. He fell in and ended up in a stream of the water, which currently also carries a lot of dangerous wreckage.
“Suddenly there was a teenager with wet swimming trunks”
Everyone involved is scratching their heads over what happened next, as the young person cannot answer the questions unequivocally. One thing is certain: “I was told by my employee that suddenly a youngster with wet swimming trunks stood in the courtyard and asked for his mother,” says Helga Hainzl from the well-known riding school “Bergmühle” of the “Krone”. .
The woman was able to find out that he came from the campsite, and the empathetic Styrian immediately took him there. “The search was already in full swing, the fire brigade and rescue services were on site.” According to initial information, the boy was unharmed except for a few scrapes.
Dike is completely inaccessible
How he managed to save himself from the fierce Sulm is unclear. Hainzl: “Due to the storm, the dike there is more than two meters high and completely inaccessible. And the young pigeon then had to cross a paddock, it is certainly a few minutes’ walk to us in the riding school.”
The well-known riding school itself is currently undergoing major clean-up work. The facility, which was destroyed in 2020 by a wildfire that killed nine horses horribly, now has extensive water damage. . .
