The professional fire brigade of Klagenfurt was called up for a difficult operation on Sunday. A fire broke out on Falkenberg near Klagenfurt. Thanks to air support, the fire quickly went out.
“The biggest challenge was getting to the fire. The terrain is steep and impassable,” explains Wolfgang Germ of the Klagenfurt professional fire brigade. A resident had discovered a glowing and crackling sound and alerted the emergency services. Then it had to go fast.
“Be quick in the first phase”
Germ: “In the event of a forest fire, it is important to be quick in the first phase.” Fortunately, the police helicopter came to the rescue. In just under 1.5 hours, almost 17,000 liters of water were brought to the forest by air. After a reconnaissance flight, there was support from the ground. “This time, from the call to the fire, the collaboration worked perfectly,” explains Germ. The forest fire could have quickly caused worse if the wind had been strong.
The BF and the police were on duty; other volunteers were on standby.
