In addition, the Italian authorities imposed a fine of 10,000 euros on the NGO.

Italian authorities have imposed a 20-day blockade of the Open Arms ship after it disembarked 195 people it had rescued in the Mediterranean. The Italian government has thus imposed a fine of 10,000 euros on the NGO

“At sea, the rules no longer seem to have any value. Sometimes they ask us to take the place of the Coast Guard, allowing seven rescues in one day, others stop us and punish us,” the NGO wrote on its social networks.

The events took place when the boat decided to issue a warning, which the authorities said had taken care of.

According to Open Arms, the ship helped 132 people: “The operation took about 2 hours (…), it was people left adrift.”
