Five people were killed and six others were shot in a shooting at a bar in Orange County, California. According to US media, the gunman was shot and fatally wounded by deputies. According to unconfirmed reports, the perpetrator could be a former police officer.
The shooting took place at Cook’s Corner, a traditional biker bar in Trabuco Canyon, between Los Angeles and San Diego. On Thursday, the traditional ‘spaghetti event’ was on the bar, where various pasta dishes were served for eight dollars per person. The bar was therefore well stocked, eyewitnesses report.
There was also an argument in the restaurant prior to the shooting. Eyewitness Betty Fruichantie wrote on her Facebook page: “He fired four to six times in my direction, but did not hit me. I am fine.”
The background to the crime is currently unclear. Gus Gunderman, chef at Cooks Corner, wrote on Facebook that he was ‘happy to be home’: ‘Families have watched their members die.’ The ‘spaghetti event’ always attracts many families. It is still unclear whether there are children among the victims.
The police are currently on site with a large contingent and the streets around the motorcycle bar have been closed off. The FBI is now at the crime scene and investigating.
