A serious traffic accident occurred on the A4 Venice-Trieste motorway on Friday evening. A tour bus carrying Ukrainian tourists crashed into a truck with Polish license plates.
The record: 15 injured, including seven minors. Three people were taken to hospitals in Trieste and Udine in critical condition. A woman is in critical condition in hospital in Udine.
Several uninjured people underwent medical checks and spent the night at a Friulian civil protection center in the small town of Palmanova, Italian media reported. The rescue teams worked for hours to free the bus passengers from the rubble.
Two helicopters were deployed to fly the injured to area hospitals. The three-lane section of the highway remained closed for hours, causing major problems for traffic. Motorists coming from Venice had to leave the highway in Latisana. Rescue teams arrived from all over the Friuli region to help clear the vehicles.
