Was it the phantom? – Wienerberg: Homeless man lay decapitated in bushes

Date:

After the bloody series of brutal knife attacks on the homeless in the federal capital, a murder alarm is now sounding again. A man’s skeleton was discovered in a forest; his head was crushed.

Saturday the sun shines down mercilessly, it is just after noon. Franz A. (name has been changed) last saw his old friend six months ago. On that day he marched along the Friedrich-Adler-Weg, slogging through the dense bushes in the popular Wienerberg local recreation area in Favoriten. His goal: a hut, well hidden in the woods and only poorly equipped.

Skeleton found in sleeping bag
Franz A. expects his “friend”, whose name he never knew according to information from “Krone”. But when he gets there, his joyful anticipation of seeing them again suddenly turns to sheer horror. Because there was no trace of his homeless friend. A. dares to look into his sleeping bag and recoils in shock.

In the cave, about 50 centimeters deep, where the hobo usually slept, only a skeleton lies on its back. Franz A. immediately calls the emergency number – despite the rough terrain, the emergency services quickly arrive at the possible crime scene.

Serial killer at work?
Knowing that an unknown had been roaming the federal capital since July 12, who had killed two homeless men and seriously injured a woman, alarm bells were ringing even before the body was examined.

Two details completely rule out an accident
The police officers’ bad premonition would finally come true: the man had not died of natural causes. While wild animals apparently tampered with the 40 to 45-year-old’s body, a closer look at the crime scene experts revealed two details of possible third-party negligence. The dead man’s head was several feet away from the body. And: According to reports, there was a hole the size of a coin in the man’s skullcap.

“The injury to the bone indicates large-scale violence, an accident cannot be assumed,” says a detective. A murder investigation was therefore immediately launched.

Fear in the city continues to grow
The criminalists must now clarify whether the current body find is related to the three previous attacks on the homeless. The fact is that there is still fear in the environment in Vienna. Additional emergency sleeping places were opened, especially for the nights, for the homeless. The intensive police surveillance of neuralgic points will likely continue – in pursuit of the phantom.
