Who opened the floodgates? – Manure flood in the Anzbach develops into an eco-thriller

Date:

50,000 liters of manure have caused a massive death of fish and crabs in the Anzbach in Lower Austria. The police investigation is looking for the perpetrator.

Maria Anzbach in the St. Pölten Land district on the third day after the liquid manure disaster. The stream that used to bubble here, in which the Viennese trout scurried around until Sunday, just like in Franz Schubert’s song about the moody trout, now resembles a cloaca.

During the clean-up work it became clear that not only all the fish, but also all the crayfish over a stretch of six kilometers had died tragically. Police officers from Neulengbach are now investigating. After the eco-disaster became known, the two cassettes in the manure cellar were examined forensically.

Why were slipcases closed again?
Crime scene professionals fingerprinted residents’ “sliding doors” and DNA tests. As has been leaked, a strange circumstance is likely to worry the police officers in the eco-thriller: why were both drawers closed again after the 50,000 liters of liquid manure leaked out?

Until now, the Anzbach represents a natural treasure in which the original species of the Wienerwald brown trout has been able to find refuge for 30 years. The efforts of rearing were canceled overnight by the flood of liquid manure.

The fire service was able to prevent an even bigger catastrophe
The Maria Anzbach fire brigade, supported by the police and the water rights authority, was at least able to ensure that the toxic broth did not end up in the Große Tulln. A dam was built and the run-off water-manure mixture was suctioned off with vacuum drums.
