Joe Biggs, a leader of the far-right Proud Boys militia, was sentenced to 17 years in prison on Thursday for storming the US Capitol in January 2021. Prosecutors said Biggs was a key figure in an “incendiary conspiracy.”
It is the second highest prison sentence associated with the storming of the Capitol. The public prosecutor had demanded 33 years in prison against the former soldier.

The attackers wanted to prevent Congress from finally declaring Democrat Joe Biden’s victory that day in the presidential election of November 2020 would confirm.
