The climate crisis has many negative consequences for people and the environment. Many of these are obvious, others less so or are just beginning to reveal themselves. For example, a current study from the US shows that child abuse increases with temperatures.
Persistent heat not only poses a risk to physical health, but also has serious consequences for the psyche. Environmental doctor Hans-Peter Hutter of the MedUni Center for Public Health in Vienna recently warned against this. Continuous temperatures above 30 degrees can therefore cause or exacerbate anxiety disorders or depression, and during heat waves, states of exhaustion and depressed moods increase, as well as aggressive behavior.
