A tragic accident occurred on the southern highway in the Ehrentalerberg tunnel near Klagenfurt on Sunday evening. A woman lost her life.
Sirens sounded in Klagenfurt around 3:34 am on Sunday. A woman was driving her car on the southern highway towards Italy when for unknown reasons she crashed into the wall in the Ehrentalerberg tunnel, causing the vehicle to immediately catch fire.
“When emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident, the driver was still trapped in the car. The woman was rescued while the fire was being extinguished,” said Wolfgang Germ from the Klagenfurt professional fire brigade. However, the driver died from her serious injuries.
The volunteer fire brigades St. Georgen am Sandhof and Kalvarienberg were also present.
