On Sunday afternoon, for unknown reasons, a spectacular plane crash took place near Echsenbach in the Waldviertel.
The Czech pilot of the small plane was traveling alone and was able to leave the plane on his own two feet and, miraculously, virtually unscathed. However, he was taken to Horner Hospital for further medical examination. Surrounding emergency services, including an emergency medical helicopter, immediately responded to the scene and cordoned off the area around the crash site within a radius of 100 meters.
“As usual in such cases, we just had to wait and see if something dangerous was being transported,” the emergency services said. Following the clarification, the area was cleared for further investigation of the small aircraft.
Crash probably due to a failed emergency landing
According to the blue-and-yellow national police, the crash was probably a failed emergency landing, which even caused the plane to roll over. It is not yet known why the pilot wanted to make an emergency landing. The aircraft will be recovered by a specialized company.
