Great honor for the legendary Beastie Boys in New York: In Manhattan, in the presence of the two surviving members of the legendary trio, a place was named after them, which appeared on the cover of their second album “Paul’s Boutique” in 1989.
The hip-hop group’s two remaining members unveiled the sign Saturday at the intersection of Ludlow Street and Rivington Street — it reads “Paul’s Boutique” — in the Manhattan borough.
Playground named after band member
There’s already a place in the metropolis that commemorates the band: In 2013, a playground in a Brooklyn Heights park was named after Beastie Boys member Adam “MCA” Yauch, who died the year before. He grew up in the area and played in the playground as a child.
The formation, founded in the eighties with Michael “Mike D” Diamond, Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz and Yauch, celebrated their breakthrough in 1986 with the album “Licensed to Ill”. The New York band’s biggest hits include “You Gotta Fight for Your Right To Party!” and “Sabotage”. Two years after Yauch’s death, the group, which also had its own label, disbanded in 2014.
