Corona outbreak – “fever” has North Korea under control: 1.5 million sick

Date:

North Korea is battling a massive corona outbreak: More than 1,483,060 people are said to have contracted “fever” and at least 663,910 people needed medical treatment, it said Tuesday. Six more deaths were reported in the internationally isolated country, bringing the death toll to 56.

The army has been sent to “all pharmacies” in the capital Pyongyang and has started delivering medicines, state news agency KCNA reported Tuesday. As a result, the “abnormalities in drug delivery must be remedied immediately,” it said. There is also a large public campaign about the “ommicron variant” of the corona virus in disguise. In addition, thousands of officials, teachers and medical students were deployed to track down infected people.

North Korea announced the outbreak of the pandemic in the internationally isolated country last week. Since then, head of state Kim Jong Un has focused on fighting the virus. He ordered a nationwide lockdown and criticized his own authorities – mainly because the pharmacies were not open 24 hours a day. The military should now remedy the situation.
