Ukraine has reported the release of 264 of its soldiers from the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol. According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, 53 seriously injured servicemen have been taken to a medical center in Novoazovsk, while another 211 “defenders” have been transferred to Olenivka. As for “the defenders” who still reside in the Azovstal area, Ukraine has indicated that the operation to remove them there continues.
The Ukrainian army has explained that the evacuated soldiers they do not belong to the Azov battalionbut belong to “the 12th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, the 36th Marine Brigade, as well as border guards, police officers, volunteers and territorial forces of the city of Mariupol”.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced yesterday that truce near the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupolto carry out the evacuation of the wounded Ukrainian army.
The humanitarian corridor has been reached after the Russian authorities managed to Agree “with representatives of Ukrainian troops,” the defense ministry said in a statement.
