A missing 86-year-old mountaineer was found after four days in the Alpspitz area of Bavaria. A cyclist saw him on a forest road.
The 86-year-old actually wanted to climb the 2,628 meter high Alpspitze in the Wetterstein mountains near Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Wednesday. As it was getting too late, he told his wife via mobile phone that he had to spend the night on the mountain. Contact was then lost. His wife raised the alarm the next day, but an initial search was negative.
Woman had priority
Just four days later, the 86-year-old was found completely exhausted but safe by a mountain biker from Austria. The kidnapper had recently been drinking from watering holes in the forest. Even before he was rescued by the mountain rescue service, the senior citizen called his wife, it was said. He was taken to a hospital for examination.
