E-mobility is experiencing a revival worldwide. According to an international study, the necessary market share of 18.4 percent has been reached in Austria, which marks the threshold to the mass market. CEO of Porsche Media & Creative, Andreas Martin, answers important questions about the range, charging infrastructure and sustainability of electric cars in the krone.tv interview with Jana Pasching.
The average Austrian drives 30 kilometers per day. “Still, people are of course used to the 900,000 kilometers of combustion engines – this is not yet completely the case with electric cars,” says Martin. But you can see that development is progressing quickly. Three years ago there were still vehicles with a maximum of 300 kilometers. “Today we already have a range of 600 to 700 kilometers.” For the future, this means that the gap will probably be closed soon. According to Andreas Martin, the issue of reach will be off the table within three to five years.
“We are needed as a society”
The aim of the Electric Days, which will take place in Vienna until September 17, is “that we as a society can realize the mobility transition”. Last year the event attracted more than 100,000 visitors to the Rathausplatz in Vienna. Even more are expected this year. The mobility transition will only be realized if it is implemented on all transport routes. “The street likes to be the bogeyman,” says Martin. “But we also cover long distances, we travel by air and on water. That was the reason for us to say that the mobility transition has consequences for all transport routes. This is what we stand for as a society.”
