A week after she disappeared from her hotel on Phuket Island in Thailand, a German tourist was found alive Monday – after seven days – by searches in the wilderness of Sirinat National Park. The woman with dementia got lost during a walk.
The 76-year-old retiree had left her hotel a week ago on Monday and set out for a walk, as evidenced by a surveillance camera from her hotel in Mai Khao. The woman has since been considered missing. When she did not return, the police launched a large-scale search for the German.
In the thicket of the jungle, the 76-year-old may have lost his way. The confused woman, who had nothing to eat or drink, was finally spotted Monday in Sirinat National Park in the northwest of the country, about 15 kilometers from her hotel, by a little boy who alerted emergency services.
The rescue of the weakened tourist was difficult: the woman had to be carried on a stretcher through rough terrain for about two hours. She was then taken to a hospital by ambulance, but likely survived the involuntary adventure relatively unscathed.
