Last weekend it emerged that a young person (17) was investigated in Vienna by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, who had reportedly previously expressed concrete attack plans on the internet. He has been in custody since then. Now, new details about the 17-year-old and his specific plans have been released. Accordingly, he would already have been on his way to Vienna’s main station with a knife.
The teenager’s plan was to commit an attack in Vienna by initially creating uncertainty among passers-by with fireworks-like fireworks. He would also not have shied away from a subsequent knife attack, according to an online report by Standard.
Plans cancelled
However, a little later he canceled his plans and spent the night in a mosque. Days later he was arrested by Vega officers. When he was arrested, the teenager also had the knife seen in the photo in the chat group.
The police turned out to be a strict believer and he would have made no secret of the fact that he had actually planned an attack. He would also have accepted his own death. During the search, paper stencils with the IS logo, a combat knife and various data carriers were seized.
Tips have been sent to officials
According to the Ministry of the Interior, the Austrian also shared a photo of himself on the internet showing him in relevant clothing with a combat knife in his hand while giving the IS salute with the other. The 17-year-old’s role models would also have been the strikers in Vienna, Berlin and France.
The officers only became aware of the possible attack plan after a tip. The investigation into the case has not yet been fully completed.
Attack on Vienna Pride thwarted
Only in June was a possible terrorist attack by three young men during the Vienna Rainbow Parade thwarted in time. All three suspects have been released since a court order.
