A traffic jam arose – burning truck in Styria: highway closed

Date:

On the A2, just before the Herzogberg tunnel in Styria, a truck caught fire on a bridge. The highway towards Klagenfurt is currently closed. The result was traffic congestion.

At 3:43 p.m., the Ligist and Modriach fire brigades were alerted to the A2 South highway (packing section). Shortly before the Herzogberg tunnel on the way to Italy, a truck caught fire. When the fire brigade arrived, the front of the truck was already fully on fire. The escaping fuel had also been set on fire and the sewer pipe and water collection system were also on fire.

Fire extinguished using breathing apparatus
Additional fire brigades were then alerted. The fire was ultimately extinguished with ten respiratory protection teams. Due to the leakage of resources, the oil damage vehicle FF Voitsberg and the chemical alarm service were also alerted. A disposal company was also asked to suck the contaminated oil-water mixture from the collection container.

In total, the fire brigades Edelschrott, Ligist (operational management), Modriach, Mooskirchen, Pack, Söding, Steinberg bei Ligist and Voitsberg were deployed with 16 vehicles and 86 members. According to current information, no one was injured in this event.

An hour-long closure
The A2 towards Klagenfurt is currently closed between the Steinberg exit and the Modriach exit, probably until about 8 p.m. The emergency lanes and one lane will remain closed on Wednesday for repairs.

The car is currently driving all the way back to Lieboch and the highway is being diverted near Mooskirchen. A journey takes 30 minutes longer.
