A worker from Salzburg describes how he was trapped in a toilet block at a road construction site in Söll (Kufstein district in Tyrol) on Tuesday. A truck ended up at the construction site.
Jürgen Wagner will not soon forget that he had some very attentive guardian angels on Tuesday. “Suddenly it clicked,” said the Salzburg resident, recalling the moment a truck crashed into his construction site and crushed the toilet block he was sitting in – the “Krone” reported. “When I saw the wall coming towards me, I lifted my legs. I don’t know if they would have fallen into the trap otherwise.”
Colleagues responded with presence of mind
His colleagues came to the Salzburger’s aid and cut open the back wall of the “house”. The fire brigade got him out. “I couldn’t have done it myself, because my circulation wasn’t going well,” Wagner is sure.
He was taken to Kufstein Hospital, where doctors diagnosed a chip in the hollow of his left shoulder. It is the first accident of this nature that has happened to the employee. Road construction sites involve risks. “In this case, maybe five percent stuck to the thirty limit. Most of them drove 70, 80, 90 km/h. They don’t care if people work there,” Wagner says.
Less than 24 hours in hospital
The accident ended slightly for him. He was able to leave the hospital on Wednesday and return to his family in Salzburg.
