Horror in the cowshed – Farmer from Salzburg fixes his animals in the mud

Date:

The idyll on this Bürmoos farm in the Salzburg Flachgau is deceptive. On the one hand, the farmer runs an exemplary organic dairy farm, but on the other hand, gruesome images have now emerged from the stable of the young cattle. Animal rights activists have filed a report and the company is facing criminal charges.

The photos shared with the animal corner “Krone” show conditions that you would rather expect in the Middle Ages. About eight young animals live in unbearable conditions that have nothing to do with animal welfare standards. Every day they stand deep in their own manure, their own feces stuck inches thick in their fur. They are not familiar with the extensive meadows bordering the farm.

Inhumane attitude
But that is not enough. Already in the early morning – probably due to the farmer’s lack of time – the heads of the animals are regularly secured with iron bars. They then have to spend the entire day standing until the lock is released later in the afternoon. Freedom of movement has been abolished, even lying down is not possible.

Under the microscope
According to information from residents, these conditions have likely existed for years; Animal rights activists from the association ‘Respect’ have been closely monitoring what is happening on site over the past two weeks. The collected impressions were enough for an advertisement, the newly appointed veterinary director Peter Schiefer from Salzburg seems shocked and also grateful in a conversation with the head of the animal corner Maggie Entenfellner, because:

“I am happy that these types of messages reach us. We depend on such information to be able to do our work. In this case, strict checks will now take place; the cleaning of the stables ordered yesterday has already been completed. I assume that there will be criminal charges persecution comes for the farmer,” says the highly committed expert Schiefer.

Animal rights activist ‘Krone’ Maggie Entenfellner also has no sympathy for such cases. “I really wonder what drives a farmer to allow his animals to deteriorate to such an extent. Such images are simply heartbreaking and shock any normal person.”
