Two German women (both 20) wanted to climb the 2,680 meter high Moosermandl in Lungau (Salzburg) on Sunday. But at the top they were surprised by heavy snowfall. A rescue helicopter was deployed.
The women reached the summit by midday, when winter conditions were already prevailing. However, the two mountaineers were not equipped for these conditions.
Complex rescue operation
As they descended 50 meters below the summit, they had to give up and make a distress call. According to police, the already severely hypothermic women were then accompanied by mountain rescuers and alpine police officers in a complex rescue operation until the rescue helicopter was able to fly them safely into the valley.
