Live broadcasts sometimes have their pitfalls. German Tagesschau spokeswoman Susanne Daubner also had to experience this. In the middle of the show she has a fit of laughter – only after four attempts did the introduction work again.
There is hardly a nicer way to start your day. Daubner actually wanted to read news about the ‘chemical summit’ in the Federal Chancellery; Actually because a banality completely upset the presenter.
Her fellow Morgenmagazin presenter Sven Lorig recently explained in a contribution to the Rugby World Cup in France that he did not know the rules of the sport and that no one had any idea about the sport at all: “I Googled the rules. “We need to look at it more,” he said. Colleague Anna Planken pointed out that he now had “about 3.40 minutes to do this.”
The moderator tries to remain serious, but it doesn’t work
While the dialogue likely made many viewers smile, the two apparently struck a chord with Daubner. When the moderators of “Moma” switched to her in the news studio, Daubner was already laughing heartily – and could barely regain his composure in the following minutes.
Despite repeated apologies, she could not be serious to stay. “I’m really sorry… Nothing can be done now,” she laughed, wiped a tear from her eye and sighed, “Oh, man!”
“So, but now”
Then it seemed as if she had caught herself: “There, now.” Take a deep breath, wipe away a tear and let’s start again: “Today, Chancellor Scholz is meeting with representatives of the German chemical industry in the Chancellery to talk about the future of the industry.” Pause. And another laugh. Daubner bravely: “No, I can do it… I have to get it there…”
“We didn’t want that at all”
Finally, she caught herself – and continued the introduction in her usual professional manner. The rest of the news block was routine. Lorig felt visibly uncomfortable at having upset his colleague so much. “I’m sorry about that. I’m going to get on my knees,” he said after the broadcast of “Tagesschau”, and Planken also apologized: “We didn’t want that at all.”
Not the first laugh
This was not the presenter’s first burst of laughter. In April 2012, she laughed out loud when a second soundtrack accidentally played while she herself was in moderation. Just when Daubner was talking about the allocation of broadcasting rights for the Bundesliga, the program of the rival channel Sat.1 ‘ran’ in the background.
“I think there are technical difficulties here,” Daubner said, then burst out laughing. Apparently colleagues in the studio at the time wanted to watch the Champions League match between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
