In March 2022, Russian television journalist Marina Ovsyannikova caused an international stir with her protest against the war on Russian television. Now the 45-year-old, who lives in exile in Paris, has been sentenced to prison in Moscow.
Ovsyannikova was not accused of the televised protest, but of “spreading false information.” For this she was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison, a Moscow court said on Wednesday.
Ovsyannikova appeared on Russian state television news in March 2022 behind the news anchor, holding a protest poster into the camera; she fled Russia in October 2022.
