Ever since the terrorist organization Hamas launched heavy rocket attacks on Israel, the world has been holding its breath. Experts are now debating whether the situation was underestimated by the secret services. The fact is: huge errors may have occurred in the information chain.
There are always clues: “You can’t organize something like this without talking to each other,” says security expert Jeremy Stöhs of the Austrian Center for Intelligence, Propaganda and Security Studies (ACIPSS) in a krone.tv interview with Jana Pasching. But Hamas has managed to maintain an incredibly high level of effectiveness and secrecy for its own planning.
This also has to do with the fact that Israel has turned its focus very inward in recent months with regard to the restructuring of the judiciary. “The Gaza Strip was no longer a strategic priority.” This also clearly shows a certain pride, an overestimation of one’s own capabilities and an underestimation of the enemy, the expert explains.
