Is Putin’s war of aggression against Ukraine a unique event that only affects that country – or part of a larger strategy that should lead to the realization of a larger “Russian world”? “In general, Russki Mir is about spreading the Russian language and culture, but also about taking care of the Russian minorities, who live scattered in some countries,” said the famous Eastern European historian Wolfgang Müller of the University of Vienna in “Demanded” with Gerard Koller.
Russian minorities such as those in eastern Ukraine, whose alleged protection was one of Putin’s reasons for invading Ukraine, also exist elsewhere in eastern Europe: for example, in the Republic of Moldova’s division of Transnistria, or in the Baltic states. The extent to which these areas also play a role in Putin’s plans is currently unknown.
In the video above you can see much more detail about the role and self-image of Russia in the world, also in relation to China or the US.
