Serious industrial accident late on Monday afternoon in East Tyrol: A 54-year-old local man was hit by a tree and injured during forestry work in a forest in Hopfgarten in Defereggen. The man had to be flown to hospital by emergency helicopter.
According to police, the serious accident took place shortly after 5 p.m. in a forest in the Lerch district. The 54-year-old was cutting down trees that were infested with beetles. “When he cut down a young tree, it became stuck between the rootstock and the ground,” police said.
The tension caused the top of the tree to snap back and hit the forest worker in the head. He suffered significant injuries.
Take an emergency helicopter to the hospital
After the rescue services and the mountain rescue service of the Defereggental had provided initial care at the scene of the accident, the injured person was flown to the Lienz hospital by emergency helicopter. The local man was hospitalized there.
