Feldkirch should actually have been honored on Wednesday evening in Bregenz for his special efforts in the field of climate protection. However, the celebrations were seriously disrupted – by Extinction Rebellion activists. Two arrests took place.
On Tuesday evening, several so-called e5 communities were honored in the Bregenz Festival Hall for their special commitment to climate efficiency. Even before the event, Extinction Rebellion activists drew attention to themselves. They protested loudly in front of the festival hall – especially against the planned tunnel spider in Feldkirch, which climate activists regard as a ‘fossil street dinosaur’.
Green smoke
The activists also drew attention to their goals on the roof of the festival hall by setting Bengal on fire. The green smoke was visible from far away. Ultimately, the demonstrators also managed to disrupt the event indoors. They quickly take the stage and give a protest speech.
“Rules must be broken”
The members of Extinction Rebellion justify their actions as follows: “We have to break rules and disobey because governments ignore scientifically based arguments. Further expanding fossil fuel infrastructure means pouring gasoline into your own burning house.” Police eventually intervened and arrested two of the activists.
