Aviation and climate protection: how do they come together? The “Krone” asked this to Julian Jäger, board member of Vienna Airport. The manager from Pupping (Upper Austria) talks about CO2 reduction, rail as competition, climate activists and the new desire to travel.
The wheels of the suitcases, which are pulled behind and next to the travelers, create a background noise that mixes with conversations and announcements. Julian Jäger’s gaze wanders over the baggage drop desk. Vienna Airport handled more than 100,000 passengers per day during the high season this summer. “In the early days of the pandemic, we had days with 100 to 400 passengers. We could have welcomed everyone individually,” says the board member, from the Eferding district, as he takes a seat in the newly designed Vienna Lounge.
