Depending on the season, it will temporarily be considerably cooler in Austria. But soon the southern foehn will cause temperatures to rise again, Geosphere (formerly ZAMG) predicted the weather for the coming week on Sunday.
On Monday there will initially be some deep residual cloud, mist and high fog in the mountainous region of the Northern Alps and in the western Danube region. Furthermore, the day starts sunny. In the west and south, however, high clouds will soon cover the sky and obscure the sunshine considerably; it is sunniest in the north and east. The wind usually blows only weakly and turns increasingly from east to south during the day. Early temperatures are only minus three to plus six degrees, daily maximum temperatures are eight to fifteen degrees.
Frosty in the morning
The cloud umbrella of a warm front approaching from the west will cover large parts of the country on Tuesday. In the beginning there are often only high cloud fields, which allow temporary, diffuse sunlight. Little by little the clouds become bigger and denser. But it remains free of precipitation. The wind is blowing weakly, with a moderate southeasterly wind from the east. Minus three to plus seven degrees are expected in the morning, with daily maximum temperatures of ten to 16 degrees, with the higher values in the west.
While in the eastern half of Austria the sun dominates on Wednesday morning, despite some local fog in the early morning or thin veiled clouds in between, in the west of the country there is already considerably more cloud in the sky. During the afternoon they eventually spread to the eastern edge of the evening. Especially above the Alpine peaks in the east, light rain may fall in some places, together with clouds. The wind blows weak, moderate to strong in the foehn winds on the north side of the Alps and in the eastern plains, increasing from the southeast to the south. Temperatures in the morning are between minus one and plus eight degrees. The maximum daytime temperatures are eleven to twenty degrees.
Southern Föhn brings higher temperatures
After the last, partly persistent fog areas have cleared, an interplay of some denser clouds and sunny periods will occur on Thursday until the evening. However, most clouds adorn the sky south of the main Alpine ridge and in the southeast. It can occasionally rain lightly, especially in parts of East Tyrol, Carinthia and Styria. The wind blows weak to moderate during the day, usually from east to south. In the morning it is three to ten degrees and during the day it is expected to warm up to 14 to 22 degrees.
A foehn south to southwest current will determine the weather for Austria on Friday. As a result, dense clouds are building up on the southern flank of the Alps and rain is expected repeatedly throughout the day, especially in East Tyrol and Upper Carinthia. Further north and east, the day starts with partly thick fog or high fog in basins and valleys. After the last remnants of fog clear, there will be a mix of sunshine and some denser clouds until the evening. The wind comes from the southeast to the west and blows moderate to strong, especially on the northern edge of the Alps. The early temperatures are between seven and 14 degrees. The maximum daytime temperatures are 16 to 25 degrees, the warmest is in the southern foehn.
