According to the latest findings, things are going badly in this country compared to Europe.
Being poor means that you cannot immediately or generally afford certain things that are necessary for daily life. When children are affected, they often withdraw because they notice their parents’ concerns. “Then the ski course at school, for example, is stupid. They compensate for the environment.” But that is problematic because children in particular need to look into the future and broaden their horizons. But not only the psyche, but also health suffers from poverty: “There is coverage for overweight children and poverty because the food is simply not valuable enough,” says Wehsely.
Vintage trend as a buffer?
The trend towards vintage and sustainability, away from consumer society and towards second-hand, is especially popular among young people. This trend, in which poverty can be compensated in one way or another, hardly has a positive effect on children. A child’s birthday alone is a problem here, for example if you don’t have space at home or can’t afford an extra cake, Wehsely explains. “Here, poverty leads to exclusion.”
“We need innovation, we need a strong economy, we need education. As a small, large country, we are number one in many things.” You cannot afford child poverty. “First of all, because of the children, but also as a society. This is actually negligence.”
