A Sunday wading trip almost ended badly for a Russian family. The four got lost on the 7-Seen-Waderblick in Bad Ischl and eventually had to call the mountain rescue team.
On Sunday, the Russian family of four, living in Switzerland and Austria, took the cable car to the Katrin in Bad Ischl. The goal was a walk along the 7-Seenblick hiking trail. When the family arrived at the mountain station around 12:00 noon, the family members saw a sign indicating the approach to the Katrin via ferrata with a time of 40 minutes.
Sign misinterpreted
But they didn’t notice that this was the access road to the Katrin via ferrata and followed the markings. When it became more and more difficult for them halfway through, they still did not turn around because it seemed easier for them to go uphill and they hoped that it would become easier again after that.
End at the via ferrata
Finally they reached the start of the via ferrata and could go no further. Due to the lack of security in alpine terrain, especially for the 45-year-old mother and ten-year-old son, returning independently was not an option for the family.
All unharmed
The mother therefore called the emergency services. The family was eventually able to return to the mountain station of the cable car on their own, accompanied and supported by the Bad Ischl mountain rescue service and an Alpine police officer from Gmunden. All involved were unharmed.
