Alarm in Germany: – Islamist planned terrorist attack on pro-Israel demo

Date:

Terror alert in Germany: As various media report, an Islamist (29) apparently wanted to carry out a terrorist attack on a pro-Israel demonstration. Authorities received timely warnings and the suspect was arrested in the city of Duisburg on Tuesday as part of an anti-terrorist operation.

According to Spiegel, the suspect is a convicted Islamist. The tip in question is said to have come from a foreign intelligence service.

The Islamist apparently wanted to drive a truck into a crowd
Authorities feared the man might use a truck to which he should have easy access, Spiegel said. It is unclear whether the man already had a specific demonstration in mind.

The suspect was apparently a member of IS and spent a number of years in prison
According to consistent information from “Spiegel” and “Bild”, the arrested person is a man who was sentenced to five years in prison by the Oberlandesgericht Düsseldorf in 2017 for membership of the terrorist organization IS.

The police still keep a low profile. A spokeswoman for the Essen police would neither confirm nor deny the reports. “We cannot yet confirm that this is the person we had in mind,” the spokeswoman said. The identification process is underway.
