After a sexism scandal: – Meloni’s ex-partner gives up TV moderation

Date:

Italian TV journalist Andrea Giambruno, long-time partner of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who was criticized for sexist statements, has decided not to moderate his TV program ‘Diario del giorno’, broadcast by the channel ‘Rete 4’. The 42-year-old Milanese made agreements about this with his employer, the TV group Mediaset, owned by the family of the late former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

“Giambruno apologizes for the inconvenience his behavior has caused and has agreed with the company to stop presenting the program ‘Diario del Giorno’,” Mediaset said in a statement on Tuesday evening. Giambruno will not lose his job, but will continue to work behind the scenes in the program’s editorial staff. The TV company did not initiate disciplinary proceedings against Giambruno.

Sexist comments
On Thursday, a satirical show broadcast by Mediaset’s private TV station Canale 5 published audio recordings of the daily editorial work of Giambruno’s talk show, which were secretly recorded. You hear Giambruno making obscene and sexist comments to female colleagues.

Meloni divorced her partner after seven years
Prime Minister Meloni then announced on Friday that she was splitting up with the television journalist, the father of her seven-year-old daughter Ginevra. “My relationship with Andrea Giambruno, which lasted almost ten years, is over,” the 46-year-old prime minister wrote in a statement published on online networks on Friday.

“Our paths have been parted for some time and now is the time to take action.”

The case is embarrassing for Meloni. The ultra-right politician, who has now been in power for a year, presented herself in the election campaign as a ‘Christian mother’ and as a defender of the traditional family. The divorce overshadowed the celebration of her first year in office last Sunday.
