The first satellite made in Euskadi will be launched into space next year

Date:

This project, LUR-1, was developed over three years by the company Added Value Solutions (AVS) at the Álava Technology Park, in Miñano. The Lehendakari congratulated the team during his visit to the AVS facilities in Miñano.

The first satellite developed and assembled entirely in Euskadi will be launched into space from California (USA) in the middle of next year with the mission of observing and photographing the Earth.

This project, LUR-1, was developed over three years by the company Added Value Solutions (AVS) at the Álava Technology Park, in Miñano.

The monitoring and reception of the photos taken by the satellite from different places on Earth will also be carried out from the same technology park.

The Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, visited the company’s facilities last Friday and explained that if all goes according to plan, LUR-1 will be launched on SpaceX’s “Transporter 11” mission in mid-2024.

Urkullu announced another “great news” that AVS has been awarded the first commercial mission based on satellite platforms, the “Roads” mission, which is of “great importance” for NASA because it will “demonstrate key technologies for orbiting to Earth, extending the lifespan and keeping satellites in orbit around the Earth.

He has said that it is “admirable” that a company born in “a small municipality like Elgoibar and now established in this technological part of Álava is developing and sharing technological capabilities with first-class allies such as NASA or the European Space Agency. “

According to Lehendakari, these are “big words” and a “reason for the country’s pride”.

Urdaneta, in space from 2022

In May 2022, another satellite, Urdaneta, was launched into orbit with Basque participation, as it was manufactured by the Satlantis company in a joint project with the Armenian state-owned company Geocosmos.

Urdaneta, which was launched into orbit 500 km from Earth to remain there for four to five years, takes high-resolution images mainly for environmental studies.
