AfD politician Daniel Halemba (22), who was recently elected to the Bavarian state parliament, is wanted by the Würzburg public prosecutor’s office on an arrest warrant.
“For tactical reasons, we do not want to reveal anything about the exact accusation or the reason for the arrest,” says a spokesperson for the investigating authority. Halemba has not yet been found. The German BILD reports that an investigation is underway for incitement to hatred.
The AfD announced on Friday that one of its MPs was wanted on an arrest warrant, but without naming it. This should be “locked up on the basis of weak justification,” AfD faction leader Katrin Ebner-Steiner emphasized.
The state parliament will be constituted on Monday
Members of Parliament generally enjoy immunity. However, this will only come into effect from the constituent meeting next Monday. The 22-year-old Halemba is said to be the youngest politician in the Bavarian state parliament. The new state parliament will be formed on Monday. It is currently unclear whether the arrest warrant against him can be executed by then.
Halemba’s brotherhood hit by a raid
Some time ago it was announced that the Public Prosecution Service was investigating him and other members of the student association “Brschenschaft Teutonia Prag zu Würzburg”. A raid took place there in September. There were accusations such as incitement to hatred and the use of symbols of anti-constitutional organizations.
