Excitement in Israel – Minister threatens Gaza with nuclear destruction

Date:

After the last elections, Benjamin Netanyahu entered into a shaky alliance with several nationalist parties. The Israeli head of government must increasingly express his support for his partners. One of his ministers spoke out in favor of atomic bombs on the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli government has clearly distanced itself from statements by a right-wing extremist minister about the actions in the Gaza Strip. Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu responded on Sunday to the question during a radio interview whether an atomic bomb should be dropped on the Gaza Strip: “That is one of the options.”

Leadership condemns statements
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu subsequently said Eliyahu’s comments had “no basis in reality.” Israel and the military acted “in accordance with the highest standards of international law to prevent harm to civilians.”

This will continue “until our victory” over the Islamist Hamas government in the Gaza Strip. According to Netanyahu’s office, Eliyahu has since been suspended.

Defense Minister Yoav Galant also condemned Eliyahu’s “unfounded and irresponsible statements.” “It’s a good thing these aren’t the people responsible for Israel’s security,” he wrote in an X-Post.

Minister belongs to the extreme right
Eliyahu of the far-right Otzma Yehudit party is not part of Israel’s security cabinet, nor Netanyahu’s war cabinet, and is not considered influential.

Eliyahu also spoke out against the access of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip during the interview with radio station Kol Barama. “We would not give the Nazis humanitarian aid either,” he said. There are no innocent civilians in the coastal strip; the population supports Hamas. He spoke out in favor of the recapture of the area evacuated in 2005 and the return of Israeli settlements.

When asked about the fate of the Palestinian people, he said: “You can go to Ireland or the desert, the Gaza monsters have to find a solution themselves.”
