On Sunday morning, a tragic traffic accident occurred in Wilhelmsburg in St. Pölten. Five Lower Austrians, aged between 19 and 26, were driving together when the driver suddenly lost control and ran off the road. The result: four injured and one dead.
The car collided with several road signs in the accident before crashing into an abandoned building, the fire service said. According to police, the fatal victim is a passenger who was thrown from the car in the collision, as was a second. Two other young Lower Austrians were seriously injured in the accident and were flown to hospital in the rescue helicopter. Fortunately, the other two were only slightly injured.
Police said the 22-year-old driver of the car was speeding and lost control of the vehicle.
“Image of Desolation”
The force of the blow must have been very violent. The first floor of the abandoned building was badly damaged, it said. On arrival, emergency services saw a “picture of devastation”. Mariazeller Strasse (B20) was closed for more than an hour for the duration of the operation. A total of 35 emergency services and seven vehicles were on the scene.
