Upper Austria: teenagers have to pay 2 euros for a glass of water

Date:

Teens berated two euros for a glass of tap water at an inn in Prambachkirchen in Upper Austria. The host speaks of an “emergency measure”.

“If you calculate that, a liter of water here costs six euros! The beer is almost cheaper there,” teenagers from Natternbach and Waizenkirchen get angry when they are billed for a glass of tap water at the Kolmgut inn in Prambachkirchen. During a school dance, the 17- and 18-year-old boys and girls were at the “Fly” disco and went to the adjacent inn after midnight for a schnitzel sandwich.

“One of the girls was not feeling well and a friend went to get water. I don’t know if he said it was some kind of emergency, but he came back with the bill: two euros for a glass of water. Leaving is already so expensive”, the students are annoyed.

Binds staff and takes up space
The operator of the Kolmgut, Klaus Peter Wagner, explains the measure on the “Krone” telephone: “We are defending ourselves with it. It got the upper hand that as many as 20 guests stood at the bar in the evening and drank free water. That takes up staff, costs money and takes up space at the bar.” When ordering, each guest is told that a glass of water costs two euros, and if someone else orders something else and gets water with it, it’s free.

“During the day we charge 50 cents at the inn if only one glass of water is ordered,” says the restaurateur. Addendum: “And if the colleagues had known that the water was for someone who had it bad, it would certainly have been free.”
