A 63-year-old reported to the police at around 9:52 am on Sunday that he had heard clear cries for help and cries from a small child coming from the dry drain in the shower cubicle directly in front of him in his apartment in Natternbach. The child’s voice shouted “Help” several times.
The child’s voice shouted ‘help’ several times and then he could hear the crying. This lasted about 15 seconds until it was completely quiet again. A police patrol was called to the scene of the incident around 10am. After a local search proved unpromising due to the lack of clarity in the search area, partly due to the adjacent Natternbach and the extensive sewage network, the fire brigade of Natternbach and Tal was alerted at 10.26 am to search for the source, according to the police.
Rescuers and divers in action at high altitudes
The Gallspach High Altitude Rescue Team also took part in the search. The rescue team was also on site. The wastewater treatment officer of the municipality of Natternbach was necessarily called in as an expert on the system.
Due to the failed search by the emergency services in the area, the diving group was warned by the operations manager of the FF Natternbach. The diving groups of FF Schärding, FF Stadl Paura, FF Marchtrenk and FF Ried im Innkreis arrived. All possible shafts that were flooded were pumped out and searched by the divers without success.
Unsolved mystery
The operation was ended around 3:30 p.m. No explanation was found for the scary experience.
