The Republican Party has blocked the approval in the United States Senate of a budget project of approx $105 billion (approximately 97,526 million euros), including items for Support Ukraine and Israel.
In exchange for their votes, the conservative bank demands restrictions US immigration laws. in particular the asylum system, and the abolition of a range of humanitarian permits for migrants.
All the 49 Republican senators of the Senate voted against to facilitate the processing of the project, which includes more than 61 billion in military aid for Kiev and about 14,000 for Israel.
Although Democrats have a 51-seat majority in the Senate, 60 votes were needed to bring the project to plenary, so Republican opposition was enough to freeze its progress.
Speaking in the House, Senate Conservative caucus leader Mitch MacConell assured that his party would not support any budget package if no immigration restrictions were imposed in return.
For their part, Democrats have emphasized that it is crucial for them to continue supporting Ukraine and Israel. In a speech on the same Wednesday, Biden even indicated that he was willing to do so concessions on immigration issues in exchange for the payout.
One of the requests from the Republicans is change the law with which someone can request asylum on US soil, imposing stricter requirements on those seeking protection, according to leaks to US media about the negotiations.
