In Russia, a 14-year-old high school student shot fellow students with a shotgun. Two people were killed and five injured in the city of Bryansk, about 380 kilometers (240 miles) southwest of Moscow, police in the region said Thursday.
The 14-year-old brought her father’s gun to school and killed herself after the crime, it was said. Another child was also killed. The injured classmates were taken to a hospital, Governor Alexander Bogomas announced. Two children were slightly injured and three others suffered moderate injuries.
Was the girl bullied by classmates?
The background to the crime was initially unclear. Russian media reported that the girl had been bullied for some time. The research is based on a conflict between the student and her classmates.
Repeated attacks on schools
In recent years, there have been repeated attacks on educational institutions in Russia. In May 2021, a then 19-year-old attacked his former school in the city of Kazan, killing nine people and injuring another 21.
Also in 2021, a law student shot several people at a university in Perm. Three years earlier, an 18-year-old attacked a university in the city of Kerch on the Russian-annexed Crimean Peninsula, killing 20 people.
